I know it's been some time since we've posted and we have so much we would love to share with everyone, but for now I just wanted to let everyone know that we are safe. It's been an overwhelming & unbelievable last few days! Fred boarded up the house, we packed up, and evacuated to Dallas (driving through the night on Wednesday) for Hurricane Ike and thankfully, we found out from our neighbor this morning (who'd stayed behind) that our house was not damaged. The only minor damage he saw was that our fence had blown over and our satellite dish was a little mangled. Words cannot describe how RELIEVED we are to hear that our house & immediate neighborhood (and my work) survived the storm (since there was a very real possibility that we could have been affected by the storm surge), but we also feel sadness that some local & very special places to us did not. As Fred and I were saying to each other today, even though we are safe and our house survived, we don't feel that we will ever be the same after this experience. We are so thankful for our house and our community, but most of all, we are thankful to have each other (Fred and I and our "girls" - Lily and Bella) and for our amazing family and wonderful friends.
As I sit here typing this, my baby is about to turn 1 year old (tomorrow on 9/14) and it's amazing to think back to what I was doing at this time last year - we (my mom, Fred, and I) had just gotten to the hospital around ~10:00pm and she was born at 3:22am. My life has changed in so many ways that I never even expected since that day. I knew I would love Lily SO much, but I never expected the depth of the love that I feel for her. It is a love that is actually indescribable! Fred and I have found so much joy in watching her grow and change and learn and become this wonderful little girl who brings smiles to everyone she comes across.
So, Lily, Happy 1st Birthday sweet baby girl! You have been a dream come true for Daddy and me and have taught us about what is truly important in life. We look forward to this next year and to watching you grow into a 2-year-old!
